Hurst A. Armstead, 83, of Amma, West Virginia, died Friday, July 18, 2008, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer, of complications from a short term illness.
He was born May 13, 1925, at Clio, Roane County, a son of the late James W. and Della C. Abbott Armstead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.
He was a retired pipeline construction worker and a member of the AFL-CIO, Local 1353, Charleston.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Gladys E. Waggoner Armstead; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lilian "Lynn" and J.R. Bishoff and Carolyn and Larry Lane; one son and daughter-in-law, Allen "Buddy" and Teresa Armstead all of Spencer; seven grandchildren and five grandchildren-in-law, Derek and Emily Lane, Amanda and Brad Cottrill all of Ripley, Joshua and Cassie Bishoff and Trey and Sarah Armstead all of Spencer, Katlyn and Brandon Dye of Leroy, Brittany Armstead and Zachary Armstead both of Spencer; one great grandson, Ethan Cottrill of Ripley; one sister, Dorma Keen of Spencer.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 22 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Roy Huffman officiating. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.
Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
