CALHOUN WOMAN CHOSEN AS JUNIOR OLYMPICS JUDGE

Lorraine Bailey of Orma has been given the honor of being asked to judge at the Junior Olympics to be held in Detroit, Michigan this month.

She will be judging the baton twirling portion of the sports event, which includes 1, 2, 3, and 4 baton twirling, freestyle, flag, hoop, various struts, duets, trios, teams, and corps.

Competing athletes will be from all over the U.S.A. and several foreign countries.

Lorraine has been active in teaching and judging baton twirling and modeling for about 39 years, and has produced many State, Regional, National, and International champions, four of them from four WV Counties, including Calhoun, Wood, Gilmer, and Jackson.

She was in the top 10 of about 400 women in the Mrs. America (PA) pageant. She belongs to the National Baton Twirling Association, Twirling Unlimited, the Amateur Athletic Union, and Drum Majorettes of America, where she is a Gold Seal Judge. Only this type of judge is permitted to judge the National contests advanced and elite contestants.

She is formerly from Pittsburgh, PA, and has resided in West Virginia for 10 years with her husband Kenny Bailey. Her parents were both born in West Virginia.

Lorraine retired as Manager of Administration for the Dept. of Property and Supplies, County of Allegheny PA, where she was in charge of 9 divisions, and a 15 million dollar budget. She received a Commissioner's award for saving the county 4 million dollars.

She previously worked for the Allegheny County Magistrates, and was magistrate certified. She helped computerize the offices, trained personnel, worked with constables, police officers, attorneys, and assisted magistrates studying for tests before taking office.

She worked about 30 years in County Government. She graduated with a 4 year High Honor Human Resources Degree from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA. In addition she attended the University of Pittsburgh for 2 years in legal studies.

Lorraine attends the Milo Church in Minnora, where she is treasurer. She also is on the Calhoun Homes Board and belongs to the Glamour Girls, Red Hat Society where she is the Queen. She keeps quite busy and loves to travel. She has been to all but 2 of the United States, but plans to visit, Alaska and Washington next year. She has also visited 5 provinces of Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico (Acapulco and Tijuana), Aruba, and the Bahamas.

Lorraine is so very honored and proud to represent West Virginia, and especially Calhoun County at this prestigious event.
