I had a great vacation with Heather and her family the week of July 4th. We had a cook out of baby back ribs and enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers with Ben's father and mother, Judge Tim Ruckman and his wife Ann on the afternoon of the forth.
Heather and I went shopping in Summersville, Fayetteville and Beckley. Those little Ruckman girls are doing great and are beautiful. I was happy to pick blueberries at Heather's. They're really good in pancakes.
Jerry Jones of Mud Fork has come to help and has planted the garden for us. He and his son Jerry mowed the lawn Monday and it looks good. Glad the rain is giving us a break.
Buddy Watkins and I drove all the way down Walker and stopped to visit with Genie and Ariah Bailey. We picked some early harvest apples there. Thanks Genie for the apple sauce.
Ariah has her own little 4-wheeler and drives very well. I was impressed.
We then went to see Buster, his sister Hazel Watkins and Ronzel Watkins grave site. There's a lot of old graves that are only marked by rocks, I wonder who they were?
We got a huge mushroom that was growing out of an old tree stump. It was beautiful. It is a wonderful thing to live here in the country.
July 18 is the Full Buck Moon. Bucks begin to grow new antlers at this time. This full moon was also known as the Thunder Moon, because thunderstorms are so frequent during this month.
"Dog Days" conjures up the hottest, most sultry days of summer. The Old Farmer's Almanac lists the traditional timing of the Dog Days: the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11. "Dog Days bright and clear - indicate a happy year. But when accompanied by rain, - for better times our hopes are in vain." Seems like it was raining here on the 3rd. Good luck to us.
Have a wonderful week!
