Jimmy Ray Hall, 49, is in Central Regional Jail charged with malicious assault, wanton endangerment and attempted murder. Bond has been set at $100,000, according to officials at the facility.
Hall (left) was arrested after a shooting incident at a residence on Pine Creek Road, just off of Mt. Zion at about 6 a.m. Monday morning.
Wounded in the incident was 46 year old Ron McNeil, who is reported in stable condition at Charleston General Hospital.
The victim was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health System by Calhoun EMS. He was then transported to Charleston.
The two men are reported to have been roommates at the residence, owned by McNeil.
A third person, visiting the residence, identified as Laurell Alexander, girlfriend of McNeil escaped the residence, running to a neighbor's to report the shooting to 911.
An earlier report stated Ms. Alexander was a resident of the Pine Creek home, however she has a Mt. Zion address.
According to sources a physical altercation ensued after an argument between the residents. Hall then obtained a firearm and shot McNeil in the knee.
Sources say there was more than one shot fired, and McNeil returned fire against Hall, but missed. Ms. Alexander was also shot at by Hall.
Reports said Hall fled the scene and was hiding at a vacant residence nearby. The suspect reportedly walked into the road with his hands up when state police approached the scene.
Sgt. J.E. Skidmore and Cpl. J.B. Hunt of the Grantsville Detachment of the West Virginia State Police are investigating the incident.
A press release by the state police is expected to be forthcoming.
