| West Virginia is making some major changes to the GED program.
There are eligibility changes and the cost is now free.
Information from the WV Dept. of Education's website:
To qualify for the free GED testing, candidates must pass the official GED Practice Tests with a minimum score of 410 on each subject area and a total of 2,250.
Once these scores are achieved, GED candidates will be issued a free GED testing voucher. GED candidates can then take the practice exam.
If the GED candidate is unable to pass the practice test, free adult basic education classes are located throughout West Virginia to help.
These instructors will work with the candidate to meet the individual needs and to improve skills necessary to pass the GED tests.
The new policy allows shorter waiting periods after withdrawal from an accredited high school prior to taking the GED Tests.
Each year more than 1,000 dropouts from 16 to 18 do not acquire their GED diplomas.
The new policy eliminates the waiting period for 18-year-olds and requires 16 and 17-year-olds to be withdrawn from school for at least one month before testing.
