Sarah Elizabeth Knotts Rhodes, 84, of South Beaver Township, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 15, 2008, in Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born September 20, 1923, in Stumptown, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William Bryan Knotts, Sr. and Eda Louise Stump Knotts. She graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1941 and the Garfield Business Institute in 1943.

Mrs. Rhodes was a secretary for 10 years in the general sales office of the B&W Tube Company. She had been active in the PTA and band parents. Her hobbies included crafts, flowers, genealogy and collectible frogs.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Donald Carson Rhodes, whom she married July 2, 1949; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Linda Rhodes and Richard Eiler, New Brighton; PA; two granddaughters, Brandy Lynne and Paul Woods, North Sewickley Township, PA and Candice Jade Eiler and friend Jeremiah Schwartz, Baden; a brother, Richard Ellsworth and Irene Knotts, Chippewa Township, PA; sister-in-law, Eleanor Hahn, Laurel, MD, and many nieces, nephews and cousins including several in West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1951 and her mother in 1968; her brothers, William Bryan Knotts Jr., in 1948; Andrew Dean Knotts, in 1997, and Robert Homer Knotts, in 2003, and a twin daughter, Cheryl Lee Rhodes, in 1952.

Her ancestors, the Fullers, came over on the Mayflower in 1620. Many other ancestors - Stumps, Knotts, Hughes, Stouts, Bushes, Starchers, Maces, Rutherfords, Huffmans, Arnolds, Jacksons, etc. helped settle Virginia and West Virginia.

At Elizabeth's request, there will be no public visitation and funeral service will be private. Arrangements are being handled by the Campbell's Beaver Falls Funeral Home.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society in her name.
