Brian Taylor smashed the 20-minute mark en route to a lopsided victory in the Calhoun Runners Wood Festival 5K Saturday in Grantsville.
Taylor rolled across the 3.2-mile (5K) course in 19:23 - better than four minutes ahead of the nearest competitor - to solidify his hold on first place in the Calhoun Cup Series. Taylor has a three-race total of five with two second place finishes and a first. He will try to continue his dominance this coming Saturday (June 14) in the Appalachian Classic 5K at the Calhoun County Park. Race time is 9 a.m.
The closest runner to the dominating Taylor was Brenda Bush who captured the women's run. She had a time of 23:32.
Parkersburg's George Welch won the men's walking title with a commanding time of 28:36. Marty Owings of Pennsboro captured her fourth straight women's walking title with a time of 37:57.
Taylor's closest completion in the men's running division was Duane Haughey of Ravenswood. He was followed by former Calhoun County cross country runner David Lee. He was followed by Carl Shaw and David Overbay.
Bush's closest competition in the women's running division was Rebecca Groves of Alum Bridge. Calhoun High School cross country runner Anna Sampson was next followed by Melinda Fitzwater and Carrie Graffius.
Scott Depot walked Mark Rooper was second behind Welch and he was followed by William Cunningham of Mineral Wells and Joe Ross of Parkersburg.
Owings beat sisters Andrea (Beecher) Fitzwater and Janis (Beecher) Ritchie in the women's walking division, Fitzwater and Ritchie tied with exact times of 43:18.
