Evelyn Maude (Looney) Bentle, 89, of Huntington, died Friday, June 6, 2008, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, after a short illness.
She was born December 30, 1918, at Tariff, a daughter of the late George Henry and Hester Keen Hunt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Don Looney, and several brothers and sisters.
Evelyn was a homemaker and a Past Worthy Matron and member of Marcum Chapter #61, Order of the Eastern Star. She had served as librarian at Westmoreland Missionary Baptist Church and also as librarian for the Missionary Baptist Churches in the state. She was part of a missionary team that had the opportunity to take several Bibles into Russia. She served two terms in the West Virginia Silver Haired Legislature and had been actively involved for many years in housing and community service projects in the Huntington area.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Robert Bentle; son, Stephen Looney, Sr., of Catlettsburg, KY; sister, Virginia Elmore of Finksburg, MD; two grandsons, two granddaughters, 8 great grandchildren, and one on the way.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. |
