543 ACRE ARNOLDSBURG FARM TO BE AUCTIONED SATURDAY

(06/09/2008)

It will be one of the biggest land auctions held in the county in recent years - a 543 acre farm belonging to the Stump family in Arnoldsburg.

It is being offered in 16 parcels and as a whole.

The auction is scheduled for Saturday, June 14th at Arnoldsburg.

The property is best known for its Civil War history, the site of Camp McDonald, established as a military post to control roving bands of partisans in 1862.

The Skirmish at Arnoldsburg took place at Camp McDonald on May 6, 1862, lasting more than 3 hours and has been listed as a Confederate victory.

Joseph W. Burson was killed instantly in the skirmish and it was at his home in April 1856, that the Calhoun County government was organized.

The farm has open pastures, mature timber land, outstanding views, road frontage on US 33-119, hunting, many home sites, a pond site and creek.

It is located a short distance from I-79, Big Otter exit.
