RITCHIE COUNTY EXPERIENCES 100 MILE PER HOUR WINDS

A weather phenomenon struck near Harrisville, Ritchie County as severe weather was sweeping across the region.

The National Weather Service has confirmed a "microburst" resulted in damage at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The microburst damage occurred one half mile south of Harrisville along State Route 16.

The microburst was found to produce winds of 100 to 110 mph.

There was extensive hardwood tree damage found with numerous large Oak trees uprooted and snapped in a diverging pattern.

Some shingle damage was also noted to nearby homes.

The damage path of the microburst was approximately one mile in length with a width of 150 to 250 yards.

A tornado watch had been out for most of the region, along with severe thunderstorms which have dumped well over four inches of rainfall.
