The Division of Highways has awarded $22 million worth of contracts to pave 158 miles of highway in 22 counties.
What is coming to a county near you?
That's hard to find out.
The department has been slow responding to Herald requests regarding paving, bridge construction or other improvements above core maintenance to be done in Calhoun, Roane and Wirt.
At one time you could just call the local highway garage and they would graciously answer your question.
The request was sent to the DOH's Communication Division.
Trying to access local information, the request was filtered through DOH's Clyde Miles, Rusty J. Roten, Susan Watkins and Brent Walker.
Walker advised "The information can be found by going to the website: www.wvdot.com and clicking on the "Motorists" box. Once there, please click on the left hand side for driver-alert zones and scroll down to the counties you are looking for.
Unfortunately, the links to Priority of Unfunded State Highways did not work, nor did the 2008-2013 Statewide Transportation Improvement List.
Local projects could not be found.
Walker did offer to do some "manual" work on the request.
The last time the Herald accessed local road improvements, a Freedom of Information request was issued.
This time, we're just too tired.
