STERNS SAYS GOODBYE TO CALHOUN HIGH FOOTBALL

(05/17/2008)

"When the dust settles, what will matter most will be
the words their coaches spoke from their heart within
the huddle. In competition and in life, how one handles
losing and moves ahead is life's great challenge."

"While Coach Sterns' teams have often been winners, he expressed his sorrow after a hard fought tournament, speaking eloquently about the lessons of defeat."

Referring to himself and the other coaches, Sterns said "It has been our privilege working with such a wonderful bunch of young men."

"You have been truly blessed to have great families and a great community in this small county to give you wonderful support."

"Sterns said he shared in the sorrow over losing the game, but life has many ups and downs, and dealing with each and every one of them is what winning is really about." - HUR HERALD

STERNS SPEAKS TO COMMUNITY

It was after great thought and consideration that I made a decision to retire from coaching football at Calhoun High School.

I have had a great 4 years as the Head Coach of the Red Devils and have truly enjoyed the opportunity to work with your young men.

I have greatly appreciated the support from the High School, the Board of Education, the staff at Arnoldsburg Elementary and the Calhoun County community.

So many people have contributed to making my time here successful: Kelly and Jeff Houchin, Boosie Wolverton, Junior Smith, Loyd Wright, the late Ox Johnson, Richard and Kathy Conley, the Athletic Boosters, Roger Propst, Jim Sullivan, the ladies at the first Baptist Church of Grantsville and so many others.

I want to also thank the Assistant Coaches and their families for their sacrifice of long hours and hard work: Mike Stump, Doyle Hupp, Jeff Houchin, Adam O'Harrow, Jason Cunningham, and Paul Goodrich have been an outstanding staff to work with.

Finally, it has been an honor and a pleasure to coach great young men and see them prosper on and off the field.

I will always cherish the strong relationships with these young men and appreciate what they have done to make Calhoun Football what it is today.

The 2008-09 Red Devils are ready to go with another great group of young men and I expect to see exciting high school football on Friday nights.

Good luck guys and thanks again,

Bryan Sterns
