SECOND RESIGNATION OVER BRESCH FIASCO

(04/28/2008)
Stephen Sears, the dean of West Virginia University's College of Business and Economics, is also stepping down, following the conclusions of the illicit awarding of a Master's degree in business to Gov. Joe Manchin's daughter Heather Bresch.

WVU Provost Gerald Lang announced over the weekend he will be leaving his post.

The two officials made the decision last October to grant Bresch an Executive MBA degree years after she attended WVU, even though she had not earned it.

Sears and Lang decided to give Bresch grades for courses that she never completed.

Bresch is the COO at Mylan Inc., whose co-founder Mike Puskar has given millions to WVU and has been a major supporter of Gov. Manchin.

The report claims Lang put pressure on others to grant Bresch the degree to help out a valued alumus.

Some WVU officials are calling for the resignation of the school's president Mike Garrison, a close friend and supporter of Gov. Manchin.
