Mr. Dorsey Ralph Sampson, 69, of Duke Whittaker Road, Mocksville, N.C., died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Davie County Hospital. He was born April 9, 1939, in Kanawha County, W.Va., to the late Ernest D. and Velma Pearle Roberts Sampson.
Mr. Sampson was retired from Thompson-Crown Wood Products and was a member of the Teamster's Union. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Sampson enjoyed bowling, gardening and fishing; but he especially enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons; two sisters, Betty Gray White and Vada Ernestine Sampson; and a brother, Donald Ray Sampson.
Mr. Sampson is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol Hedrick Sampson of the home; two daughters, Tammy Lynn Sampson of the home and Penny (Charles) Childress of Mocksville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Cristopher Robert Burch, Austin Lee Childress and Bryce Wayne Childress; three sisters, Irene Nutter of Ariz., Cleora Mae (Jeffrey) Marshall of Ohio, and Pauline Marie (George) Williams of Kentucky; a brother, Robert Lee (Karen) Sampson of West Virginia; and special friends, Richard and Kathy Wooten of Kentucky.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at Bear Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Childress officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Eaton Funeral Home, Mocksville, N.C.
