The state Higher Education Policy Commission says 3,173 members of the Class of 2008 have qualified for Promise Scholarships, a few hundred less than last year.
Calhoun High School counselor Terri Goodnight says "We should have nine students eligible for the Promise Scholarship this year," at the local school.
Goodnight says the names will be released later.
Promise pays for in-state tuition for students who choose to attend college in the Mountain State.
This class of Promise Scholars had to have a 3.0 GPA, earn a 22 composite on the ACT with a 20 ACT score in four subset areas.
Those students who failed to meet the standards will receive a letter next week detailing why they were rejected.
