Brush fires have hit Calhoun three days running, with dry woodlands and conditions being high risk.

The Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire along Rt 16 south about three miles from the town at 3:35 p.m.

Fire shot up the steep hillside, starting from what is believed to be a discarded cigarette.

Firemen used lightwight 1" brush fire lines to attack hillside blaze

Firemen aggressively fought the fire with leaf blowers, rakes and water streams, remaining on the scene for about two hours before bringing it under control.

Firemen returned to the scene about 10 p.m. to fight a rekindle.

The Upper West Fork VFD responded at 1:55 p.m. yesterday to a rekindle of a brush fire that struck Thursday between Orma and Minnora.

Sources at the scene indicated the fire also likely started from a discarded cigarette.
