An early morning earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 stuck Illinois and was felt in West Virginia, Ontario and several other states.
The 5:36 a.m. EDT the quake rattled skyscrapers in Chicago's Loop and homes in Cincinnati, but appears to have caused no major injuries or damage.
The quake was centered in southern Illinois near West Salem.
It was linked to the well-known New Madrid fault line, which comes into the Ohio Valley.
Over 100 people called WSAZ-TV after feeling the shock.
Recent earthquakes have occurred in the same area of Illinois as recently as 1987 and 2002.
Others over the years have been reported, including a few felt in Calhoun County.
