BIG TV CHANGE COMING IN FEBRUARY, 2009

(04/18/2008)
A lot of people in Calhoun still get TV with an antenna.

That will end on February 17, 2009, unless you get a special converter box or upgrade to new TV technology.

That's when TV stations quit broadcasting in analog and begin transmitting a digital signal.

That digital signal cannot be received on current analog TVs.

Industry experts and the government are now on a mission to educate the public about the February transition and the many advantages of the new signal.

"You're going to have a dramatically improved picture quality, the signal takes up less bandwidth," said John Fawcett, General Manager of WOWK-TV.

The transition is generating a lot of mixed reviews, a lot of confusion and a lot of questions.

If you're on cable or satellite, you won't have to buy new TV's.

Only people who use an antenna as their sole source of signal have to buy a new TV or use a converter box.
