Ron Hinkle, Dying Art Glass, won Best of Show
In Tamarack's first juried art exhibition
To commemorate its 12th anniversary, Tamarack has announced its second juried art exhibition and awards competition, The Best of West Virginia.
According to General Manager Cheryl Hartley, the show will open in the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery on Friday, June 20, West Virginia Day. This is the second such endeavor for Tamarack's gallery following the success of the juried show, Modern Interpretations, earlier this year.
"We are grateful to the Tamarack Foundation for its role in funding awards for our juried exhibitions. Without the foundation we would be unable to branch out into new undertakings like this," said Hartley. There will be $4,000 in prize money up for grabs.
David Dickirson and his wife, Linda, are sponsoring the major awards through a gift to the Tamarack Foundation. "We encourage artists to use this opportunity to stretch their creativity to its highest level," said Sally Barton, Executive Director of the Tamarack Foundation. "The foundation's purpose is to help artists expand their horizons through special programs and new ventures."
During the reception and open house on Friday, June 20, at 6 p.m., the five awards will be announced as follows: Best of Show, $2000; Second Place, $1000; Third Place, $500; and two merit awards, $250 each. Entries will be displayed for sale in the gallery for six weeks.
Open only to West Virginia artists, the show is not limited to Tamarack juried artists. Artists may submit up to five images of their work, which may be traditional or contemporary. As the name of the show suggests, work should represent "the best of West Virginia."
Actual photos or digital images on CD must be submitted by May 12 before 5 p.m. to the Tamarack Fine Arts Gallery. Entry fee is $20. Acceptance notices will be mailed by May 23. Accepted artists must deliver their work to the gallery no later than June 15, 2008.
