ROBBED AND STABBED - Charleston Police say a man was robbed and stabbed early Tuesday morning at the corner of Capitol and Virginia streets.
Sergeant Aaron James with the Charleston Police Department said three men followed Scott Meador, 31 of Charleston, to his car on Capitol Street at about 1:30 a.m. after Meador had briefly talked with them.
One of the men, who was wearing a camouflage hooded sweatshirt, pepper-sprayed Meador, and then all three started beating him, said police.
Meador was hit in the face and body and bitten on his left hand.
The men then took Meador's wallet and car keys before leaving the scene.
Meador told police he knew one of the suspects' names.
He was treated by paramedics and released at the scene.
Later, at about 3 a.m., officers found Meador lying on on Capitol Street. He had a cut across his head and was stabbed in the stomach.
Witnesses said they saw a man repeatedly cut Meador with a knife, and another man beating him with a belt.
A couple blocks away, police arrested and charged Roderick Woods, 34, of Charleston, with malicious wounding.
Woods had blood on his hands and shirt, but did not have a knife on him. Officers then found a small pocket knife with blood on it on top of the carport at the library.
