The Calhoun Runners was organized in late 2006 with the goal of making Calhoun a center and destination for area runners and walkers.

"To that end we have scheduled a six-race series this year and introduced the Calhoun Cup," said Gaylen Duskey.

The race schedule includes:

* April 5, 2008, The Flower Power Run (For Blooming Idiots) -- at the Calhoun County Park in Mount Zion, W.Va. Start time is 10:30 a.m. * May 31, 2008, Hog Knob Hill Climb, Grantsville to Hog Knob Road Course, 9 a.m.

* June 7, 2008, Wood Festival Run, Road Course in Grantsville, 8:30 a.m.

* June 14, 2008, Appalachian Classic, Calhoun County Park, 9 a.m.

* August 16, 2008, Hotter Than Heck Run, Calhoun County Park 10:30 a.m.

* November 8, 2008, Not Yet Done Run, Calhoun County Park, 10:30 a.m.

The 2008 Calhoun Cup Series will consist of six races and will span the entire Calhoun Runners season.

There will be four major winners of the Calhoun Cup. Winners will be male and female overall best cumulative score in walking and running. Other winners will also be awarded in age groups, most improved, etc.

To win one of the four Calhoun Cup awards a runner or walker will be required to participate in every event. If a runner is unable to participate in an event they will be given a "blank" score matching the last place finish in their group.
