Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito is scheduled to be in Spencer today to
talk with 147 employees, about half from Calhoun County, who are losing
their jobs at the Goodrich plant.
Goodrich has announced the plant closing for 2002. The local operation,
which makes inflatable rescue slides, is being moved to two other locations,
according to the company.
Governor Bob Wise, along with local officials, are working to keep the facility
in Spencer.
The closing is a major blow to the area's economy, particularly after the
Kellwood Plant moved its jobs abroad. Kellwood, a 42-year fixture in
Spencer, had provided about 400 jobs.
