MUD FORK FIRES HAVE SUSPICIOUS ORIGIN

(03/27/2008)
Regional fire departments have responded three days in a row to brush fires on the left fork of Mud Fork, a few miles from Rt. 16 near Chloe.

Fire has spread over twenty or more acres on top of the mountain, sending huge billows of smoke skyward.

Firemen have had to fight the blazes with rakes and leaf blowers, using lots of manpower.

The fires are of a suspicious origin, each occurring in the same general area, three miles up the left fork from the Mud Fork Church.

Forrester Larry Cook responded to the area Wednesday evening and is investigating the blazes.

Wednesday evening the Upper West Fork, Arnoldsburg and Big Otter VFDs answered the call, first paged at 3:58 p.m.

It took ten firefighters about four hours to put out the blaze Tuesday evening, first reported at 8:29 p.m.

Monday evening's fire was reported at 9:30 p.m.
