Glen A. Gainer, 85, of Hebron, formerly of Grantsville, departed this life Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the family residence following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 13, 1923, at Lockney in Gilmer County, a son of the late Dennis W. and Farie Fitzpatrick Gainer.
He was retired from the Consolidated Natural Gas Company primarily working in the Grantsville area. Glen was a 1941 graduate of the former Normantown High School in Normantown, Gilmer County, and served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He had formerly attended the Rush Run Baptist Church at Stumptown, Calhoun County. He great enjoyed listening to and playing bluegrass music.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Sylvia L. Parsons Tucker Gainer; sons, Larry (Sharon) Gainer of St. Marys, Gary (Connie) Gainer and Terry (Faynell) Gainer, all of Weston; stepchildren, Robin Morgan of Hebron and Phillip Morgan II of Minot, N.D.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl J. "Tex" Gainer; sister, Geraldine Elder; and a grandson.
A celebration of Glen's life where friends may visit with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro.
Memorials in the name of Glen A. Gainer are preferred to the Glenville State College Alumni Foundation, 200 High St., Glenville, WV 26351 for the purpose of furthering the education of students in the art of bluegrass music. |
