A well-known Wood and Calhoun County educator, J. Wesley Chenoweth, 95, formerly of Nicut, died in Parkersburg on March 20th.
Chenoweth retired from the Wood County Board of Education after having taught 35 years in Calhoun and Wood Counties. He was a member of the local, state and national teacher organizations and was a member of the National Rifle Association and a life member of the North American Hunting Club.
He attended St. Paul United Methodist Church.
He was born October 13, 1912 at Nicut, Calhoun County, West Virginia, a son of the late David Oscar Chenoweth and Mary Jane (Knotts) Chenoweth.
Surviving is his wife of 71 years, Stella (Brannon) Chenoweth; two sons, John Roger Chenoweth and his wife Marilyn of Houston, Texas and Frederick Allen Chenoweth of Mineral Wells.
Also survivng, granddaughter Jane Ann Hudok of Gibsonia, PA; three grandsons, John Chenoweth of Oviedo, FL and Mark and Eric Chenoweth of Houston; two great granddaughters, Kaitlin and Sloane Hudok; and four great grandsons, Joseph, Sam, Jack and Jake Chenoweth and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Wesley was preceded in death by an infant daughter, sister Etta Wheeler, four brothers, Thurl R., David, Denver and Carl Chenoweth and 3 infant brothers.
He was the last surviving member of his family.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 24 at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor James Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
