A new Office of Emergency Services Director has been appointed for Calhoun County.
Kathryn Wood, who currently works as a part-time 911 dispatcher, was appointed this week by the Calhoun Commission.
Wood attended the 911 Advisory Board meeting held yesterday evening.
Wood agreed to fill the position for about a year, after which the County Commission will be looking at combining it with the current 911 Director's job.
"We will be making sure Calhoun is connected with the state OES and Homeland Security activities," Wood said, "and take an active role in revitalizing OES services to the county."
"We will be working closely with 911, LEPC and the county emergency services," she said.
Wood will receive a stipend of $5,000 a year for her services, in addition to a $3,000 budget for travel and expenses.
The Calhoun Commission is planning on receiving up to 50% reimbursement from the state for the position.
