Water rates for about 166,000 West Virginians are going up.
The Public Service Commission of West Virginia approved a settlement agreement granting a 14.9 percent rate increase for customers of West Virginia-American Water Co.
The foreign-owned water company had asked for a 25% increase.
Starting March 28, a small residential customer using 3,800 gallons of water a month will pay $40.12, up from $34.90.
Commercial customers will see a big spike.
The increase is expected to generate about $14 million.
West Virginia-American Water, serves 19 counties.
