QUESTIONS REGARDING HERALDS OBITUARY POLICY?

(10/29/2008)
The Hur Herald provides free obituary services to any family or funeral home who desires to publish a notice of the death of a loved one, including a photograph if provided.

The Herald frequently gets questions about why obituaries do not appear.

It is simply because those funeral homes or families do not submit the free obituaries.

Regional newspapers generally charge $100-$150 for a one-time insertion.

If families do not pay, those regional daily newspapers then insert a few brief sentences listing only name, age, address and time of service, free.

HERALD PUBLISHES E-MAILED OBITUARIES

The Herald will publish free obituaries from our regional counties Wirt, Roane, Clay, Gilmer, Ritchie, and Braxton, or other obituaries of individuals who have connections to the area, provided the funeral home or family members e-mail them to the Herald.

The Herald is widely-read daily and weekly, with about 50,000 visits a week, and would appear to be an opportunity to assist families regarding the publication of obituaries.
