The Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF) has been awarded a challenge grant from the Ford Foundation through the West Virginia Grantmakers Association.
The challenge grant is in the amount of $5,555 and will establish a new fund that will support charitable activities in Gilmer County.
The grant is a $2:$1 match, and LKACF must raise $11,110 by March 31, 2009, to successfully complete the grant. Once this fund is established, it will support charitable activities in Gilmer County.
"We are very excited about the challenge grant," said Sarah Holt, LKACF Representative. "It gives us the opportunity to reach out to Gilmer County in a way we have not been able to do before.
We are excited about working with Gilmer County residents to build this fund, and to help them support the charitable causes they care about most."
LKACF was established in 2004 as an affiliate of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF), and it currently serves Calhoun and Wirt Counties. PACF is a successful regional community foundation that was established in 1963, and currently has over $25 million in assets.
LKACF's affiliation with PACF allows it to share successful management and investment practices, and it allows the local LKACF Advisory Board to focus on its unique needs and vision of the future. Due to the affiliation with PACF, LKACF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
LKACF's Advisory Board currently includes Jim Bennett, Chair; Fred Rader, Vice Chair; Karen Caltrider, Pat Lydon, Diane Ludwig, Russ Cline, Dee Scritchfield, Jim Bruce, Bill Howley, Carrie Brainard, Sandy Osborne, Alvin Engelke and Dan Metz.
