When many people think of alcohol abusers, they picture teenagers sneaking drinks before high school football games or at unsupervised parties. However, alcohol abuse is not limited to the young or to those prone to addictions. Abuse can occur in any home. There are no age, income or lifestyle limits to who can be caught up in alcohol abuse.
In 2003 approximately 21.6 million American adults abused alcohol or were alcohol dependent. According to the 2006 West Virginia Substance Abuse Indicator Profiles, Calhoun County ranked the highest in the State of West Virginia for the underage consumption of alcohol. Parents and children need to know the dangers of alcohol and other substances.
Victory Baptist Church will be holding their first Substance Abuse Awareness Sunday to bring to light the dangers our community faces with substance abuse. Guest Speaker and singer, Tommy Nutter has been invited to share his insight on the subject during the morning worship hour at 11:00 a.m. Tommy's stirring and colorful testimony will bring to life the danger and hardships living in a world of substance abuse can cause, and his life will give hope to those suffering in abusive and addictive lifestyles that you win the battle.
Pastor Mike Worf encourages the community to join them at Victory Baptist Church this Sunday to welcome Tommy Nutter, to be encouraged by the service and to receive valuable information about what help is available to Calhoun County.
