Gov. Bob Wise will join with Roane County officials to try and keep the Goodrich plant
open. Executives of the company announced Thursday, the plant will close next year.
Spencer's plant currently employees 147.
They said the market for aerospace products because of the terrorist attack on
September 11 has caused the business to hit bottom. The Spencer plant will be
consolidated with another operation. Goodrich has several plants in America and
abroad.
Wise says he will work with the West Virginia congressional delegation to keep the
facility open. About half of the employees are residents of Calhoun County.
The Governor said the closure took him by surprise.
Goodrich is cutting 2,400 jobs from their production facilities.
