Union employees at two Dominion Resources subsidiaries are preparing for a contentious vote on a proposed $49 million-dollar, six-year employment contract.
Insurance premiums would increase 1,000 percent for the workers, if they ratify the contract.
Dominion says about 1,000 members of Utility Workers Union of America Local 69-II at Dominion Transmission and Dominion Hope would get annual 3.5 percent pay raises and protection if the companies are sold.
The Utility Workers Union of America is recommending members vote no.
Local 69-II President Charlie Rittenhouse says the raises are fine, but medical insurance premiums are a killer.
Voting on the contract should take a couple weeks.
Richmond, Virginia-based Dominion has been trying to sell Dominion Hope, which has about 115,000 West Virginia gas customers.
Dominion Transmission transports and stores natural gas in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Maryland and Virginia. |
