In a rough and tumble game Tyler Consolidated proved to be the biggest and strongest as it rolled to a 74-51 victory over visiting Calhoun in the LKC's 13th-place game Thursday night.
More than 20 fouls were called in the contest and each team lost a player to personals - Calhoun lost leading scorer Andrew Norman while Tyler lost plodding center Bob Purkey.
Norman scored 12 before fouling out but he was in early foul trouble in the first half and sat out most of the second quarter as the 3-17 Silver Knights doubled its seven-point lead over the 0-20 Red Devils with a 14-7 advantage good for a 33-19 halftime lead.
Calhoun had placed freshman Tyler Bennett on Tyler's high scoring Ryan Summers and held him to three points in the first half. In the second half, however, the Red Devils went away from that man-to-man match up and Summers scored 17 of his game-high 20 points.
Summers was backed by Cody Watson with 14 and Dustin Snider with 13. Snider's 13 came despite playing only three quarters after scoring 16 to lead Tyler to a 61-17 victory in the junior varsity game.
Justin Gerwig led the way for Calhoun with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Norman, with 12, was the only other Red Devil player to score in double figures.
Calhoun also had eight points from Chuck Kendall while Josh Cain added six. Cai Clothier, Harold McCumbers and Bennett had three each while Anthony Richards chipped in with two. Greg Myers and Daniel Sims both played but did not score.
Richards scored five to lead Calhoun in the junior varsity game. Stuart Fitzwater with four and Myers with three backed him. Sims and Clothier had two apiece and Joe Overbaugh added one for Calhoun. Kendall, McCumbers, Bennett and Jordan Panarello all played but did not score.
Calhoun is home to Parkersburg Catholic Tuesday night in the last home game of the year for the Red Devils. It closes out its regular season Friday at Wahama.
