During the windiest part of a Sunday afternoon a Great Blue Heron took refuge in a sunny spot on Crummies Creek Road across from the old Emma Metz place.

The bird was not hurt, but the winds were so strong that it did not try to fly when approached.

Normally, it is not possible to get within a few hundred feet of the three-foot tall bird.

Herons have become frequent visitors to the Calhoun landscape.
