Calhoun Middle School girl's basketball has ended their scheduled season.
CMS A-team hosted a well talented Gilmer County team for a rematch of an early season loss of 15.
CMS battled hard with tough defense and was down only 3 at the half.
Once again, CMS girls came out flat early in the second half with Gilmer County outscoring CMS 8-2 in the third quarter.
CMS went even with Gilmer County in the fourth quarter by scoring 8 apiece, but coming up short by a score of 33-24.
Scoring for CMS was Savannah Church with 10, Rochelle Gerwig 6, Kensie Laughlin and Amber Wilford with 4 each.
CMS B-team was defeated by Gilmer County 40-9.
Providing the offense was Shayla Arnold with 4, Monica Wilson 3, and Bailie Cain 2.
Thursday evening, CMS hosted Ritchie County for the second time this season.
The A-team outscored Ritchie 9-2 in the first quarter and never looked back.
CMS defeated Ritchie County 45-15 despite only shooting 5-20 from the free throw line.
Leading the attack was Amber Wilford with 13, Savannah Church 9, Rochelle Gerwig 8, Kensie Laughlin 6, Tangie Cain 5, Brittany Norman and Chelsea Heery added 2 a piece.
CMS B-team was defeated by Ritchie County earlier in the season by a score of 38-8.
CMS B-team battled tough in this one and came up short by a score of 26-19. Providing the offense for CMS B-teams last game was Carlena Craddock with 8, Brittany Norman 6, and Shayla Arnold added 5.
Second seed CMS will host a first round tournament game on Tuesday, against #3 seed Walton at 7 p.m.
The winner will advance to final four of CWVAC Tournament held at Braxton County Armory, semifinal round on Friday the 15th, and championship round on Saturday the 16th.
CMS girls basketball had a good season, finishing 9-6 and securing #2 seed for the tournaments. |
