MAN ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING AT TROOPER - A Jackson County man is under arrest after he fired a shotgun at a trooper.
According to a state police press release, it happened as Jackson County Sheriff Deputies and troopers were conducting an undercover narcotics buy.
Officers had gone to the house of 57-year old Freeland Jones of Sandyville, with First Sergeant D.O. Lucas having an informant to enter Jones' residence.
The object was to purchase a Sentanyl patch.
The informant, according to the police report, entered the house and met with Jones while the trooper remained in the unmarked vehicle in the driveway.
Shortly, Jones exited the house with a 12-gauge shotgun and approached Sergeant Lucas in an aggressive manner.
The release says trooper Lucas started to back out of the driveway when Jones fired one shot at him.
Lucas was not hit.
Jackson Sheriff Deputies arrested Jones without incident.
Jones is charged with one count of wanton endangerment and one count of delivery of a controlled substance. He was taken to the South Central Regional Jail.
Jones may have fired birdshot from the shotgun at Lucas.
Sentanyl patches are often prescribed to individuals that have moderate pain. The patches release morphine quicker than pills.
