Two big runs were enough to propel Notre Dame to an easy 88-47 victory over Calhoun County Wednesday night.
The Fighting Irish opened with a 10-0 run only to have Calhoun battle back to close within 13 - 37-24 - at halftime.
But a second run by the Irish - a 20-0 run to start the second half - put Notre Dame on top 57-24 and the game out of reach.
Along with the big run the Fighting Irish also benefited from several untimely fouls against the Red Devils, losing Andrew Norman to personals with 3:38 remaining in the third quarter. He finished with a team high 14 points.
The Red Devils also lost Cai Clothier to fouls while having another starter - Justin Gerwig - hamstrung by four personal fouls, which he also picked up in the third quarter.
Calhoun was also bothered by turnovers, committing 40 to just 12 for Notre Dame.
Chuck Kendall backed Norman in the scoring column for the 0-14 Red Devils with a season-high 10. Gerwig and Josh Cain added seven apiece while Tyler Bennett had three and Greg Myers, Anthony Richards and Cai Clothier added two each. Harold McCumbers and Daniel Sims both played but did not score.
Patrick Allen scored 19 to lead Notre Dame while Preston Musgrave chipped in 12.
Notre Dame also won the junior varsity game by a 49-18 count.
Daniel Sims led the 0-12 Red Devils with seven while Kendall added four and Richards had three. McCumbers and Jordan Panarello had two points apiece. Joe Overbaugh, Clothier, Dennis Dye, Quentin Murphy, Stuart Fitzgerald and Myers all played but did not score.
Calhoun tries for that elusive first win Friday night when it travels to Gilmer County for a doubleheader against the Titans.
