Calhoun Middle School wrestling team competed in the 2-day, 30th annual WSAZ Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Huntington, WV this past weekend.
Starting Saturday, with second round consolations, was Jean Blair losing by tech fall to Ceravalo of Charlestown, Justin Yoak winning in a 4-3 decision over Easthom, of Enslow, Jared Haught pinned Malone of Blennerhasset, and Cory Metz lost to Harley Hamrick of Clay 2-0.
In the quarterfinals, Jean Blair pinned Anthony of Robert Bland; Cory
Metz pinned McKinney of Collins; Justin Yoak pinned Shively of Edison,
Jared Haught lost in a 4-3 decision by Steele of East Fairmont, Jean Blair
lost by a pin from Holbert of Edison, Cory Metz won in a 5-4 decision over
Crislip of Huntington, Jared Haught winning by a pin of Thomas of Milton
and Corey Metz losing 9-1 to Sayre of Point 9th.
Moving into the Consolation finals, was Jean Blair placing 8th in the
95# class with a loss to Pyles of Point in a 4-2 decision, Jared Haught
placing 4th in the 128# class with a 5-0 loss from Levitan from John Adams
and Cory Metz placing 6th in the 135# class with a 8-6 loss from Lowe of
Shady Springs, Justin Yoak placed 2nd in the 102# class in the finals with
a 2-1 loss to Gustines of Charlestown.

Calhoun placed 18th of 43 teams scoring 71 points, only 4 points
behind 17th place finisher, Spencer.
In addition to Spencer, other teams
from the CWVAC and placements were Wirt 7th place with 141 points, Clay
14th place with 79.5 points, and Braxton 34th with 20 points.
