Roberta Sue McCartney, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at home following an extended illness.
She was born March 26, 1930, the daughter of Asa Bush and Leafy Lee Vannoy.
One brother, Asa Wilson (Jack) Vannoy; one sister, Mary Joe Jones; and her husband, James Everett McCartney, whom she married July 5, 1946, preceded her in death.
She is survived by one sister, Anne Jones of Tanner; four children, Sandra Sue Parks of Beckley, Pat G. McCartney of Tanner, Jack E. McCartney of Tanner and Tim C. McCartney of Parkersburg; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Sue worked for several years for Rubber Fabricators of Grantsville and later worked for Gilmer County Schools as the county resource bus driver. She loved nature and spent much of her later years caring for and monitoring the migration of many birds and animals. It was not uncommon to see her home surrounded by deer, wild turkey, squirrels, raccoon, ducks and songbirds. She also loved the world of plants and flowers that she maintained around her yard and porch.
Sue chose to donate her body to the W.Va. University Hospital Science Department. She chose not to have funeral services.
Donations can be made in her memory to Hospice Care Corporation, P.O. Box 323, Burnsville, WV, or to the WVU Hospital Research.
