Clay WV - Operation Home Ties will kick off the Walk to Iraq and Back at 12 noon, Saturday, January 19th at the WYAP-LP radio station in the old Fas-Chek parking lot in downtown Clay.
The kick off event will be a Deep Freeze Walk.
This walk is about 2 miles around and through downtown Clay, crossing both the Dundon and Pisgah bridges and ending with hot cocoa and coffee at the WYAP station.
Walk to Iraq and Back was started at Ft. Hood, Texas and Ft. Carson, Colorado as a healthy way to show support for the troops and the families of the 4th Infantry Division now deploying to Iraq.
It is 14,700 miles from Ft. Hood to Iraq and 14,000 from Ft. Carson.
Over the next 12 months, walkers will be keeping track of the miles they walk.
Jane Cook, host of the radio show Operation Home Ties, will announce the running grand total each Saturday and send them in to Ft. Hood each month.
If you would like to participate in the Deep Freeze kick off walk just show up at the old Fas-Chek parking lot at 11:30 Saturday, January 19th.
If you can't make the kick off you can still participate by emailing the miles you walk each week to Jane at operationhometies@hotmail.com
Operation Home Ties will be coordinating other special event walks throughout the year.
"Show your support for our troops and their families come out and Walk to Iraq and Back," says Cook.
