Earl B. King, 80, of Tamassee, S.C., formerly of Parkersburg, died Oct. 16,
2001, at his residence.
He was born June 11, 1921, in Calhoun County, son of the late George Frankin
King and Aretha Hicks King. He had retired from the United States Army,
where he had received a Purple Heart and had served during World War II in
the 6th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop; was a life member of D.A.V. Post 16
of Parkersburg; had attended the Faith Tabernacle Church of Seneca, S.C.; and
was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma I. Bonnell King of Tamassee, S.C.; one
stepson, James Cox and his wife, Mary of Tamassee, S.C.; one stepdaughter,
Elsie Deane Killibrew and her husband, Ron of Farmington, Ark.; one sister,
Vesta O'Neal and her husband, Charles of Chloe, W.Va.; seven grandchildren,
Janice Chappell, Charles Chappell and his wife, Julie, and Mark and his wife,
Michelle all of Tamassee, S.C., James M. Cox Jr., Jamie Marie Baum and
Samantha Irene Baum all of Seneca, S.C., and Michael Alan Cox of West
Union, S.C.; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special
friends, Pollie Orr of Tammassee, S.C., and Bill West and his wife, Marie of
Parkersburg; and friend and Pastor Charles Stinett of Seneca, S.C.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Kimes Funeral Home of 521 Fifth
St., Parkersburg, with the Reverend Harlan B. Hodge officiating. Burial will
follow in the Evergreen South Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2-4
and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
