JOLO MAN MURDERED - State Police in McDowell County hope an autopsy will shed more light on the murder of a McDowell County man, 28-year old Michael Phillips.
His body was discovered Tuesday in a remote hollow near his hometown of Jolo. He was reported missing last Saturday night. Authorities discovered his burned out vehicle Monday.
TEEN SHOT AT HARTS â A teenager was killed Wednesday at a house on Big Harts Creek Road after he accidentally discharged a .22-caliber pistol he had gotten as a Christmas present.
Police say the 17-year-old male, whose name was not released, was joking around with a friend about 6:45 a.m. and put the gun to his head, according to the friend.
Police say his friend warned him to be careful, when the gun went off.
Police said, "At this point it seems to be completely accidental."
