The Calhoun County school board met Monday evening at Mt. Zion.
Board members present, Cindy Dale, Joy Starcher, Lee Evans, Steve Whited and Mike Wilson, with Superintendent Jane Lynch, secretary.
A delegation spoke to the board about their concerns not hiring a volunteer coach for Middle School girls basketball. (See Herald story 1/08/08).
Student Transfers approved: Parents - Charlotte and Tim Blair - Home Schooled (Grade 5) to Wirt County.
Home Instruction approved: 1. Parents - Greg and Donna Selmon - Home Instruction (Grade 7) - Norma Collins,
Instructor.
A volunteer agreement was approved for Derek Metz - Calhoun High School.
Personnel approved: Harry Beall - ½ Time General Music Teacher (Effective 01/16/08); Dendra Miller - Middle School Student Tutor (Effective 1/08/08); Robyn Ellison - Homebound Teacher (Effective 1/08/08); Trina Beall - Middle School Student Tutor (Effective 1/08/08); Patricia Riddle - Additional Prior Experience - 12 years (Effective 11/26/07).
Substitute teachers approved, Ashley DeWeese (Pending Certification)
and Harry Beall (Effective 1/16/08).
Transportation request approved, Eighth Grade Students - Washington, D.C.; May 21-23, 2008; Coach Buses
Provided; Lisa Walker (8th Grade Team).
Finances approved.
Motion was made by Mr. Whited to approve Items A-E. Mrs. Starcher seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Board concerns: Mr. Wilson, Mr. Whited, Mr. Evans and Mrs. Dale expressed concern and desire to review the Board Volunteer Policy and Procedures.
Mr. Whited, Mrs. Starcher and Mrs. Dale expressed the desire to review the OEPA Report of CMHS in depth.
Mrs. Dale and Mr. Evans expressed concern about snow days.
Mrs. Dale moved and Mrs. Starcher seconded to call a Board Work Session for Monday, January 14, 2008, 5:00 p.m.
After discussion, Mrs. Dale amended the motion to call a Special Board Meeting for review of the Volunteer Policy and Procedures in addition to the OEPA Report, January 14, 2008, at 5:00 p.m., with a work session to follow.
