Charleston police said a man is in critical condition after his throat was slashed in the kitchen of his home Monday.
Metro 911 received a call from a man claiming he had stabbed another man.
Police found James Derrick Jr., 47, slumped over and covered in blood, sitting on the floor of his hallway with his back to the bathroom door, according to the complaint.
The report said an officer had to handcuff him because he kept clutching at the deep laceration on his neck.
Charles Wesley Wild, 25, dialed 911, crying and upset he had an altercation with Derrick. He told dispatchers he had been threatened
Officers found Wild in the middle of the road, shirtless and covered in blood.
Investigators found a large pool of blood in the kitchen, along with a 6-inch kitchen knife and a semi-automatic pistol, all covered in blood.
Police also found a young girl, visibly frightened and covered in blood, in the bathroom of the home. The complaint said she was about 5 years old. She was uninjured.
Wild was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and battery.
