WALKING - "You can learn about the smallest of things"

Grantsville old-timer Rymer "Doc" Law may be remembered for lots of things over the years, but in recent years the 94-year-old man is known for his daily walking excursions around the hilltops and on the streets.

Doc's walking life ended December 31, 2007 with his passing.

Several years ago, he told the Herald, "I really enjoy walking...I expect to reach 90."

Doc said walking allowed him to learn about the littlest of things that most folks take for granted.

Grantsville residents know Doc for his mileage as a walker, but those older will remember his solid contribution to the community.

Doc, a US Navy vet in World War II once worked for Francis Hardware and later operated his own store, Law Hardware.

He is best remembered for his down home demeanor, storytelling and attitude toward life. "He was a great role model," said one of his sons.

He has been among a handful of Grantsville residents remaining from the early 1900's who dug their roots deep in Sunny Cal, married, worked and raised their family here.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville, with Rev. Greg Swisher and Deacon Shirley Fitzwater officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
