A Parkersburg man has been arrested and charged with murdering his
14-month-old son.
Police say 25-year-old Carl Sams (left) first claimed that a man fell on the boy last Friday, but Sams was alone with the child.
Devon Sams was taken to Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital and later taken by helicopter to Women's and Children's Hospital in Columbus. He died two days later. Police say the autopsy results did not back up the father's story.
"During his interrogation today his story changed and he later admitted that he had shook the baby and sent it into convulsions and ultimately the baby never recovered," said Sgt. Shawn Graham, Wood County Sheriff's Department.
Carl Sams was arraigned today in a Wood magistrate court. No bond has been set for the capital offense.
