Josh DeWeese had one of those typical Josh DeWeese games despite a defense designed to stop him but his efforts were not enough as Calhoun fell to visiting Doddridge County, 45-29, Tuesday night.
While DeWeese had a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds the rest of the team scored only 11 as the Red Devils hit a paltry 10-for-43 field goal attempts while adding five of six free throws in the losing effort.
Both teams started out slowly and Calhoun held a one-point, 8-7, lead at the end of the first quarter.
But the problem for the 0-3 Red Devils was that Doddridge, now 2-2, warmed up while Calhoun did not. The result of that was a 21-14 halftime lead by the Bulldogs.
Calhoun whittled away in the third quarter and pulled within five on a couple of occasions but trailed by eight, 34-26, going into the final period.
Ad it was the final period when senior Andrew Norman fouled out at the 7:05 mark.
Following that Doddridge pinched even tighter on DeWeese and held the Red Devils to a mere three points -- on a DeWeese three-point goal.
Norman backed DeWeese with six while Harold McCumbers had three and Josh Cain and Cai Clothier one apiece. Justin Gerwig, Chuck Kendall, Daniel Sims, Tyler Bennett, and Anthony Richards all played but did not score.
Cody Ash led Doddridge with 16 while Andrew Curtis added 11.
Doddridge won the junior varsity game 78-17.
Sims led the way for the Red Devils, now 0-3, with eight. Quentin Murphy added four while Richards and Clothier had two each wile Jordan Panarello added one. Noah Sweeney, Tyler Bennett, Dennis Dye, Stuart Fitzwater, Joe Overbaugh and Myers all played but did not score.
Panarello led the Red Devils with seven rebounds while Sims and Myers added five apiece.
Calhoun will travel to Parkersburg Thursday for a doubleheader with Parkersburg Catholic.
