Chester L. Boggs, 84, of Elizabeth, departed this life Oct. 10, 2001, at the
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was a prominent Wirt County businessman and was owner of Boggs Penzoil
for more than 50 years. He was born in Roane County, son of the late Mart and
Blanche Boice Boggs. He was a Past Master of Burning Springs Lodge 132 A.F.
& A.M. He had a 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of
Parkersburg. He was Past Commander and member of 53 years of the American
Legion Post 55 of Elizabeth. He was a U.S. Army veteran and received the
Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the American Theatre Ribbon.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Cora Hall Boggs; one son, Chester Lee Boggs of
Elizabeth; one daughter, Shirley Marie Null of Elizabeth; one brother, Charles
Edward Boggs of Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Elizabeth Mae Bishop of Mt. Clair,
W.Va., and Francis Vandall of Spencer; six grandchildren, Shonnette Copen, Amy
Boggs and Alicia Cooke all of Elizabeth, Trey Whidden, Sheri Hall and Shannon
Pelfrey all of Fort Myers, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death along with his parents, by one infant son; one brother,
Guy Boggs; and one sister, Ruby Scott.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home of Elizabeth
with the Rev. Randy Ash officiating. Burial will be in K of P Cemetery with
Masonic Graveside Rights. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and from 9
a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. |
