HERE COMES THE FAT POLICE

(11/28/2007)
Ohio is among 15 states trying to ban artery-clogging trans fats from restaurants.

The legislative proposals have met strong opposition.

The strongest opposition has been from the National Restaurant Association and its state-level affiliates.

Restaurants appear to be clinging to trans fats for cooking because of taste and price.

A lobbyist for the Ohio Restaurant Association wants a gradual phase-out of trans fats.

Supporters of the bills say it's easy to switch to other oils such as canola or corn oil.
