Daniel Clay McDonald of Calhoun County, West Virginia, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Charleston.
Dan was born in Calhoun County, November 13, 1926, son of Bernard and Mary, grandson of Clay and Nancy, great grandson of James and Gerutia, all who lived and raised their families in Calhoun County.
He is survived by sons, Robert Gary, and Ronald Orr; daughter, Laura Kay; sisters, Cathleen McDonald and Julia Jarvis; six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Eric, and his wife of 55 years, Mary Jane.
He graduated from Calhoun High School, joined the Army, then attended West Virginia University. He and his wife raised their children in Fairfax County, Virginia, where he worked for General Motors, first as an instructor and then as regional service manager and executive.
After a successful and impressive career Dan moved back to his beloved Calhoun County where he lived happily and served generously.
He was president of the Little Kanawha Area Development Corporation; was a founding member of the Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation; Calhoun County Building Commission; and board member of the Little Kanawha Parkway Authority; he also served as Republican Chair for many years, and worked for the party at county, state, and national levels.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 24 at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
